Holy CAKE

I have been working on these things ALL day.  I got an order from a friend of mine to do a “pink princessy” cake for two little girls, plus an individual cake for each girl and a cake for the dad.  Although it was pretty hard work, it was still fun for me…I got to make my first tiered cake!  Plus I got to play with gumpaste (the tiaras and wand are made from it).

Thai food and Cookies

I have been really wanting Thai food ever since I saw them cooking it on the Food network.  Also for some reason, I really wanted sushi, which doesn’t really make sense because I practically gagged the first time I had it.  So for Fathers day, I made a date with my dad to go to Mai Thai to partake in both!  The food was really good, we ordered a rainbow roll (tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, tuna and salmon), and I had a bento box with pad thai, thai basil, and a spring roll.  The sushi was definitely fun to eat, and I didn’t gag this time.  I think sushi is one of those things that you have to eat a few times before you decide to like it or not.  Neil definitely was NOT a fan, but I’m proud of him for trying a piece.  Our meal was definitely beautiful though, and I really like it when my food is pretty!

These are crispy shrimp cracker things…

Happy Father’s day Dad!!!!

Also for father’s day, Bethany helped me make some cookies to give to Daddy and her Grandpa and Grandad.  We made some sugar cookies and frosted them with royal icing so that the girls could draw pictures on them with food pens.

Simplot Picnic

Neil’s brother Clint works for Simplot, and he invited us to go to his hawiian luau company picnic.   For lunch, there was a huge spread with two roasted pigs and all sorts of other things to eat.  Everything was free.  There were games and concessions, we got cotton candy, kettle corn, roasted nuts, frozen drinks, ice cream, and miscellaneous other things.  Thanks for letting us mooch off of you, Simplot!!

Strawberries

We went on Saturday to Grandma and Grandpa’s to pick strawberries.  I think we picked too many, but I was bound and determined not to waste any of them!  I thought it was about 20 pounds of berries, but Neil was saying that he thinks it was closer to 50 pounds.  Either way, that’s a lot of strawberries!  We picked, cleaned, cut, and froze them all in the same day.  Some were made into jam, and the rest were put into ziploc’s and frozen.

We went to Zoo Boise this past Saturday to see all of the animals (or lack thereof…haha).  Actually the new giraffes and lions are pretty cool.  We had a great time!
