Thanksgiving 2013

McKinlee made a shoe box float for the first grade Thanksgiving Parade and feast. These aren’t the greatest pictures because she was moving. She made her bonnet and pilgrim top in class.

She got some Shrinky Dinks for her birthday and decided she wanted to put them on her float. I’m not fond of school projects because we always forget about them until the night before they need to be turned in. She put a couple of little stuffed animals on the float too. There were some pretty fancy floats! McKinlee’s was not one of them but she did the majority of it herself which is the important part.

It was our year to spend Thanksgiving with my family. We started renting a cabin a couple years ago and it is so nice to be able to have everyone together. This year the cabin was in Featherville, Idaho. It was about the same distance for everyone, and since Trevor and Brandi and their boys were moving to Minnisota right after Thanksgiving we figured that would make it a little easier for them. There wasn’t any snow but it was fun riding the four-wheelers and the kids liked going outside and exploring a little bit. It was still pretty cold but they didn’t have to wear all their snow gear every time they wanted to go outside. These pictures are from the rental website. It is right on the Boise River and would be lots of fun in the summer time too. It needed a few extra couches for seating but other than that was awesome!

The kids had tons of fun! Clint and Brandi did lots of Black Friday shopping online and got some really good deals. We ate lots of yummy food and had lots of left overs. Clint beat everyone at Foosball. Everyone else lost to him at least once. The cousins did their Christmas gift exchange the morning we were leaving so they could see the person they had open their gift. We enjoyed spending time with everyone and look forward to doing it again in two years.

McKinlee turns 7

Clint and I had been discussing moving McKinlee into her own room for a few months. Teegan was two years old now and probably didn’t need to be in a crib anymore. McKinlee was very excited about the possibility of having her own room. I thought it would be fun to do a room make over for her big birthday gift. McKinlee loved the idea and couldn’t wait. I had found lots of great ideas on Pinterest and wanted to do an argyle wall. Holy cow…never again! It looks so cool but it took me three days to do one wall! If I didn’t have my friend Katie helping me I would have given up while trying to figure out how to measure and tape everything. McKinlee wanted to help paint and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to keep her out of her room for three or four days so I let her help.

After the wall was done I told her she couldn’t go back in until everything was ready. My friend painted a tree in the corner and Clint and I hung a mirror and her baby picture on the wall. I had a friend doing some vinyl but then her father passed away so that was put on hold. After these pictures were taken we put up some bright pink curtains that bring everything together nicely. I saw the bedding a while ago and loved it because it wasn’t too “little girlish” so it can grow with her.

She loved it and couldn’t stop smiling for hours after the big reveal! She kept her room clean for a whole week because she wanted to show anyone who came to the house who hadn’t seen it yet. We celebrated her birthday on her actual birthday this year. She wanted gift cards and money so she could buy her own gifts.

She has been wanting one of my barbies for a while so we gave her the Belle barbie.

She didn’t want a cake this year, she wanted Gooey bars instead.  I can’t believe our little girl is so grown up! We love her and her spunky personality!

Halloween 2013

This year was “the year of changing costumes” for Halloween. McKnlee wanted to be a Monster High doll. Cannon was a ninja for our Halloween party  and then saw a skeleton costume at Wal Mart and decided that’s what he wanted to wear for trick or treating. Teegan was a vampire for our Halloween party and then refused to wear the vampire costume for trick or treating because he thought it was too scary. He found the pirate costume Cannon wore a few years ago and wanted to wear that instead.

We didn’t even get a picture of the stealthy ninja by himself in his costume. We had our annual Halloween party the Saturday before Halloween and it was lots of fun.

Oregon Coast 2013 – Waldport

We decided to leave for the Oregon Coast at 6:00 pm so that we could do most of the driving while the kids slept. We booked a hotel in Portland for that night. We arrived there at about midnight. There was a continental breakfast the next morning so after everyone ate we loaded up. We stopped at Ikea and the older kids got to play in the child watch but Teegan and Laken had to stay with us because they weren’t potty trained.

After Ikea, we headed to Waldport.  We stopped at Walmart in Newport on the way to get a few groceries.  Teegan was complaining about his stomach hurting and as we went to checkout, he threw up near the checkout area.  It got on him and Sydnee but the bulk of it made it to the floor.  We got him cleaned up and checked out and were off to the beach house.  When we got there it had been raining and must have been a windy week prior because we had to dig wet sand drifts out from in front of both doors before we could even get in.  It was a great location!  It didn’t have a great view of the ocean even though it was right on the beach, but there was plenty of soft sand between us and the water so we didn’t have to worry about the kids.

The beach house itself was nice as well but as you can imagine, it was impossible to keep the sand out.

Next up on the agenda was Whale watching at Depot Bay.  The kids were so excited for the boat to come in.

I didn’t get any great pictures, but we saw some whale spouts and a few brief views of the whale.

By the time we got home from whale watching, McKinlee had a fever…that reached 105.  🙁  Motrin would bring it down and she could play for a while but it would come back after the medicine wore off so she would have to rest.  It was a bummer deal.

DSC_1506

We wanted to go check out the Heceta Head lighthouse.  It is the most photographed lighthouse on the Oregon Coast.  It turned out to be difficult to find and by the time we got there we were ready to head back to the beach house.  Ironically I didn’t even get a decent picture of the lighthouse.

Cannon always waits for the most inopportune times to need to use the bathroom.  He waited until we’d walked a good ways from the parking lot (where the bathrooms were) before he let us know that he had to use the bathroom NOW!

DSC_1522

We got up on Sunday, cleaned and packed up to head out.  Just before leaving we took a family pic.  Cannon did not want to cooperate and needed a little coercion.   Lol.  🙂DSC_2697

The drive back was a long one, but we had a great time and can’t wait to return to the coast again!

Back to School

McKinlee started school on August 22nd. We went and met her teacher and dropped off her supplies the night before. Her teacher is Ms. Girard. We requested her because Oakley had her last year and loved being in her class. McKinlee was so excited she could hardly sleep.

Cannon started pre-school on August 27th. He is going to Hardy House Pre-School, taught by his best friend Spencer’s mom. It is conveniently located four houses away. Teegan was feeling a bit left out so Cannon let him jump in the picture.

Cannon wanted to ride his bike to school. Teegan escorted him in the power wheel.
